At the fundraiser she shares a dance with Maggie Sawyer who asks for her number, but Abbot cuts in to talk to her again. Colonel Kane convinces his daughter to rest for a night and go with her step-mother Catherine and cousin Bette to a charity ball. This is revealed to be a group of "true believers" led by Kyle Abbot who help both of them escape. Alice finds her at the same time Colonel Kane comes to rescue her, and both groups are ambushed by monstrous Hybrids. Batwoman is blasted with hallucinogens and has her wig ripped off, sending her stumbling through the woods.

Alice fights back with a razor blade hidden in her mouth, continuously quoting Lewis Carroll.

This is shown to be concentrated pepper gas, and Batwoman drags Alice away for questioning. In the middle of smashing up covens she's interrupted by Alice, who she points her gun at and pulls the trigger. The Religion of Crime has a new leader coming to Gotham, and Batwoman leaves to hunt her down with her father's experimental military weaponry. Returning home in the morning, her girlfriend dumps her for being unreliable and her father Colonel Kane helps her go over the night's records.

Batman tells her that this is her case, but he'll be watching and ready to help if she needs it. Batwoman is observed by Batman while she beats a suspect for information on the thirteen Religion of Crime covens in Gotham City.
